GNOME - Australian Bedroom Beat

GNOME was initially the one-man musical transport to the past for the young Australian, Jay Millar. Hearing the call of Chuck Berry and Little Richard, he complemented their rumbling rhythm & blues with the sixties beat bang of The Beatles, The Easybeats and The Kinks.

Taking refuge is his bedroom he began to flesh out his sound and recorded the debut EP, "Ear Candy". Released in February of 2024 it was a laudable nod to his influences, containing rousing covers of The Easybeats' "She's So Fine", Chuck Berry's "I Want To Be Your Driver" and Little Richard's "The Girl Can't Help It". The bonus was his marvelous Liverpudlian rendering of the Betty Everett classic, "The Shoop Shoop Song". Fittingly gender adjusted to "It's In Her Kiss".

Jay ushered in 2025 with a blast of gutsy beat rock snatched straight from the 60s. The "I Like It" EP introduces both garage geeks and beat freaks to his bang on, period correct songwriting and recording stylings. The title track kicks it off with a gnarly riff ripped straight from one of The Kinks' more ragged offerings. "Feeling Of Love" gets a remarkable mop-top treatment ala "Meet The Beatles" era Fab Four. The rawer blues beat sound of "Rolling Stone" and "Loophole Blues" lands both tracks on the fringe of English freakbeat territory.

Following the release of "I Like It", GNOME transformed into a full four piece. Joining Jay (Vocals/Lead Guitar) were Ned Capp (Guitar), Olly Katsianis (Bass) and Ethan Robbins (Drums). The foursome invaded Singing Bird Studios in Frankston in January of 2025 and laid down what will be their twelve track album.
